Thirty years of getting batch right

Ahlbrandt Software has built, sold and supported AHLSORT from Little Rock, Arkansas since 1993. The same engine, the same company, the same people answering the phone.

Still here at the next renewal

Sort sits underneath everything else in a batch estate. When it goes wrong, payroll does not run and statements do not print. So the questions our clients ask are how long we have been doing this, and whether the same people will pick up the phone in five years. We have been answering both since 1993.

Since 1993

Three decades of releases, migrations and overnight batch windows, under the same ownership, with the product supported without a break.

Hundreds of installations

In banking, insurance, government, healthcare and data services, across North America, Europe and Latin America.

One code base

Every client runs the same engine, tested against around two thousand automated tests before each release. No forks, no special builds.

How we got here

1993

Ahlbrandt Software is founded in Little Rock, Arkansas, to bring mainframe-grade sorting to commodity hardware.

The 1990s

AHLSORT takes shape as a sort and merge engine that reads DFSORT control statements as they are, with mainframe record formats, EBCDIC and packed decimal handled natively.

The 2000s

Linux, Unix and larger volumes. Syncsort MFX syntax, ICETOOL, SYMNAMES, user exits and OUTFIL report writing follow, driven by what clients actually run.

The 2010s

The first large partner and distributor relationships, and AHLJSORT for Micro Focus Enterprise Server, so JCL sort calls work without change.

Today

Virtual machines, containers, cloud instances and Linux on IBM Z and LinuxONE, as clients move batch off the mainframe or cut what it costs to run.

The people behind it

A small team, deliberately. You will be dealing with the people whose names are on this page.

Bill Ahlbrandt

Bill Ahlbrandt

President and Chief Executive Officer

Bill founded Ahlbrandt Software in 1993 and has led it ever since. He wrote the first version of AHLSORT and still works on the engine, which is why support questions tend to be answered by the person who built the code. Three decades of batch estates in banking, insurance, government and data services sit behind the answers.

Alexis Sikorsky

Alexis Sikorsky

Chief Commercial Officer

Alexis founded New Access, a private banking software company he grew to more than 500 people and over $50 million of annual sales before selling it to private equity. He leads commercial strategy, pricing, contracts and partnerships at Ahlbrandt, holds an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford, and is the author of Cashing Out.

Mark Reeves

Mark Reeves

Chief Growth Officer

Mark has spent his career in financial services technology, at Capco and FIS among others, selling and delivering to banks and the firms that run their systems. He leads growth, sales and partnerships at Ahlbrandt, and is usually the first person a new client or reseller speaks to.

Mark Bagnall

Mark Bagnall

Chief Technology Officer

Mark was global Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer at EFG International, with earlier senior roles in international banking technology. He has run platforms across fifteen countries and budgets in the hundreds of millions, and now oversees how AHLSORT is engineered, tested and licensed.
